Chairman and CEO
Dan Wiesel co-founded Pet Airways in 2005 and has served as our Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer since August 2009. Mr. Wiesel also served as President and Chief Financial Officer until January 2011. Mr. Wiesel has more than 25 years of experience growing companies from the ground up in a variety of industries. From 1983 to 1985, Mr. Wiesel served as Vice President of Acquisitions for a national real estate investment company, where Mr. Wiesel was responsible for the negotiation and purchase of over $300 million in commercial real estate. Subsequently, in 1985 Mr. Wiesel founded The Wendemere Group, a real estate development firm, which built custom homes with a total value of more than $20 million. In 1990, Mr. Wiesel founded StitchIt Corporation, a manufacturer of women’s swimwear, increasing the company output to thousands of units per week with 50 employees, and producing goods for prestigious brands such as Guess?, Anne Klein and Bodyglove. In 1995, as principal of Interlink Recruiting, Mr. Wiesel was responsible for the creation of this highly respected boutique executive recruiting firm. Mr. Wiesel holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship from the University of Southern California and holds a private pilot’s license. As a result of these and other professional experiences, Mr. Wiesel possesses particular knowledge and experience in business development, sales strategy and management that strengthen the board’s collective qualifications, skills, and experience.
Executive Vice-President and Chief Development Officer
Alysa Binder co-founded Pet Airways in 2005 and has served as our Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer since August 2009. Ms. Binder has more than 20 years’ experience founding and managing independent businesses in services and retail. Ms. Binder began her career in the premium incentive industry, responsible for marketing and sales to large corporate customers such as Carnation Foods and Allstate. Ms. Binder later founded a retail jewelry operation, expanding the business to include custom creations for high-profile clients such as Guns N’ Roses. In 1995, Ms. Binder founded Interlink Recruiting. Working closely with top tier venture capital and investment firms on early stage and more mature start-ups, Ms. Binder was responsible for putting together management teams and providing strategic directions to a new industry, The Internet. Ms. Binder most notable successes includes Palm Computing, pioneer of the first PDA, (maker of the Palm Pilot PDA), and eBay, where she worked directly with the founders. As with other companies, she helped build the early management team of eBay, laying the groundwork for eBay’s IPO and phenomenal growth. Ms. Binder is Dan Wiesel’s wife and they have been an effective team, working together successfully for over 20 years. In 2005, Ms. Binder joined Dan in founding Pet Airways. As a result of these and other professional experiences, Ms. Binder possesses particular knowledge and experience in business development, strategic planning and marketing that strengthen the board’s collective qualifications, skills, and experience.
Evon L. Midei
Evon L. Midei is a registered pharmacist with over 35 years experience in pharmacy, pharmacy management, and executive level hospital administration. With a BS in Pharmacy and an MBA he has continually demonstrated his skill and expertise in all aspects of pharmacy and hospital management.
Mr. Midei began his career as the Pharmacy Manager for Thrift Drugs, including a multi-million dollar pharmacy. He then went on to be the Operations Manager for a contract pharmacy service, where he oversaw the operations of in-house pharmacies in several hospitals in Allentown, PA area.
Recognizing his abilities, he was initially hired by St. Luke’s Hospital, in Allentown PA to help them with special projects. In the many years that he was with the hospital, he rose to become the Senior-Vice President and COO of the hospital. Mr. Midei was responsible for the day to day operations of the hospital and its affiliated corporations. He negotiated contracts with Managed Care Organizations, physicians, employers, and government agencies, in addition to capitation arrangements for both inpatients and outpatient services.
After leaving this position, Mr. Midei has held several consultative positions with pharmaceutical organizations.
Dr. Jonathan Renkas
Dr. Jonathan C. Renkas, MD, is an Emergency Medicine Physician with over 15 years of clinical experience and is a former Diplomat of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Renkas has provided clinical care to tens of thousands of patients.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Renkas has served as a medical consultant to Sterling Healthcare Initiatives for the past 7 years. In this role, Dr. Renkas was primarily charged with the implementation of best practices as they pertain to Emergency Department operations.
He has extensive experience interacting with hospital executives and optimizing perceived areas of weakness in departmental operations. Dr. Renkas also has Utilization Management experience and was the Medical Director of a Blue Cross /Blue Shield management firm in Illinois. This position provided a firm understanding of Utilization Management and Medical Insurance operations as they pertain to patients, medical providers, and facilities.
In the process of providing pre-surgical evaluations and treating thousands of injured workers, Dr. Renkas has developed an extensive knowledge of Workman’s Compensation issues and regulations. During the course of this work, Dr. Renkas became involved in the development of a healthcare financing model that reduced the financial burden of delayed payments to physicians. This ultimately led to increased access to much needed medical evaluation and treatment of injured workers in the state of Illinois.
Dr. Renkas continues his heavy involvement in Healthcare Finance.
He is actively involved in the evaluation of new technologies in healthcare and has reviewed numerous biotech companies for funding. Dr. Renkas has a particular interest in emerging nano-technology applications and pharmaceutical delivery systems.
